A summary for buyers, checked on 12 October 2026. It is not legal advice: your own importer or adviser has the last word.
What we say here, and what we do not
Across the European Union the word “prebiotic” may not be used to promise a health benefit. So here we say what is in the bottle, 6 g of fibre, and promise nothing about health.
EU regulation on nutrition and health claimsThe label is in German
Food sold in Germany is labelled in German, with the particulars the EU's food information rules ask for.
EU regulation on food information to consumersA deposit on the bottle
Germany puts a deposit of at least 25 cents on single-use drinks bottles and cans of 0.1 to 3 litres, glass included, and a soft drink is not among the drinks it exempts. Whoever first places the drink on the German market marks the bottle and joins the DPG deposit scheme.

Before packaged goods are first sold in Germany, the business that places them on the market, usually the importer, registers with the LUCID packaging register. Registering costs nothing.

The bottle's name hereGerman knows it as the Kugelverschlussflasche or Knickerflasche. The lemonade in it was Knickerwasser, Klickerwasser in the Saarland, and a Kracherl in Austria and parts of Bavaria. It was made in Germany until at least 1959. Kugelverschlussflasche, Wikipedia (in German)
